James Richards: Into the Breach

Turner Prize nominated artist James Richards, whose film Uncontrollable Universe was completed as part of the Projections Commissions 2019, joins us to present a programme of films by friends and peers which circles and expands upon his own work.
Films both tactile and affective channel material from the humdrum to the weird, the impersonal to the intimate into an admixture which manages to be both brainy and bodily, appealing to concerns at the heart of Richards’ own practice around identity, representation and the corporeal. Includes work on video and 16mm by Sharon Lockhart and Leslie Thornton, alongside Richards’ earlier work Not Blacking Out, Just Turning the Lights Off.
Part of Projections Commissions 2019—four new films by artists for cinema.
James will also deliver a guest artist talk at the Fine Art Lecture Theatre, Newcastle University in connection with this event on Tuesday 22 October at 17.15
