Events

Projections events take place regularly at Tyneside Cinema. They include self- and guest-curated screenings, and new live work for cinema. Six of each year’s events are drawn from our biannual Open Call for artists and curators. Find out about upcoming and past events, and see event images below.

Upcoming

This autumn, as opinion is polarised and division deepens in British politics, we celebrate difference and solidarity via a packed series of events with internationally significant artists and curators tackling subjects urgent and timely. Turner Prize nominee James Richards returns to present a programme of films brainy, bodily and weird, while with BALTIC we present a mini-survey of singular British artist Alia Syed’s work tackling migration and identity. Lucy Parker joins us with a screening of her first feature Solidarity, exposing the full injustice of blacklisting in the construction industry; and SCOT-PEP and artist Petra Bauer join peers for a screening of Bauer’s ‘Workers,’ around the precarity of sex work in the UK. With Newcastle University we launch a new open call prefaced by Hito Steyerl’s prescient film The Empty Centre; and launch The Visible Press’ new book on seminal artist Lis Rhodes with films and readings. Lastly, this season features two Kids’ Club events tackling subjects of no less importance, such as the convergence of the three suns. Plus, The Rough Cut returns in November with Kitty Anderson as guest moderator.
