Graduate Artist in Residence 2018-19: Georgia Bates

Georgia Bates’ film Mother of the Mountain looks for the often unseen strength demanded of mothers, reflecting on stories from women of the North East. Through joy and grief, storm and sun, local women’s experiences of motherhood are brought together with the wind-blown heights of the Cheviots to suggest a relationship between lived experience and landscape.

We launched Mother of the Mountain at a special event at Tyneside Cinema on 8 February 2019, featuring a discussion between Georgia and artist Kathryn Elkin, and a reception.
