About the artist

gobscure is a self-taught writer / performer / artist, unsupported until very recently. Their experimental short films have screened worldwide, including commissions from Dash, Shrewsbury and Tullie House gallery, Carlisle; and work created as a result of residencies at Celf, Mid Wales; Moniack Mhor, Scotland; and the New Art Gallery Walsall. Previous work ur’s for kurt (schwitters) was finalist in 100 Years of Dada (ICA, london, 2016). Moths & Rust screened at Mission Gallery, Swansea, thanks to Disability Arts Cymru; and gregor samsa awake was finalist in ALTFF Spring 18 Festival (Best Artistic Film in ‘Super Short’ category).

Solo exhibitions since 2017 include Fokidos, Athens; Art House Wakefield; University of Atypical, Belfast; Alma Zevi, Venice; and The Newbridge Project, Gateshead. gobscure’s works have won the Francis Chagrin award from Sound & Music; Sage Gateshead Summer Studio Residency 2019 (for ships-ov-fool); and Society of Authors Award 2019 for waters of life. Their last full-length play joey was 2019’s Testing Ground commission from the New Wolsey Theatre, produced in association with Greyscale, named by the British Theatre Guide as North East Experiment of the Year. Their next solo show provoked to madness by the brutality of wealth tours nationally from Autumn 2020.
